TS-011 / The Album Leaf One Day I’ll Be On Time
Recorded mostly at home and in the studio with Rafter Roberts, Jimmy played nearly every instrument on the record, wrote all the tracks and recorded 90% of it himself. One Day I’ll Be On Time shows Jimmy at his most intimate and personal, highlighting his transition from seminal hardcore to instrumental poetry. The music ranges from extremely ambient guitar pieces to uptempo, danceable electronica and everything in between. Tons of keyboards, drum samples, thick basslines and acoustic guitar add layers upon layers to Jimmy’s initial ideas. Lot’s of open room recording gives the record a very sincere and genuine feel that is certainly present in The Album Leaf’s live show. Despite its instrumental nature, these songs speak volumes about one’s experiences through life. One Day I’ll Be On Time artwork by Christopher Sprague.
The recording for what would become In A Safe Place, The Album Leaf’s first post Tiger Style record, took place at Sigur Rós’ Sundlaugin studio in Icaland, over the same weeks as the Iceland Airwaves festival in October of 2003. For the headlining show on final night of Airwaves, The Album Leaf played a sold out show at the National Museum in downtown Reykjavik, showcasing his studio-turned-touring band of Jón Þór Birgisson, Kjartan Sveinsson, Orri Páll Dýrason (of Sigur Rós), María Huld Markan (of Amiina), Gyða Valtýsdóttir (of Mum). Having seen over 15 Album Leaf shows up to that point, including Radio City Music Hall in NYC for the opening slot on Sigur Ros’s 2nd US tour, the Airwaves show will always be one of our most cherished memories due to the sheer uniqueness of setting.
